Five Ways To Win My Heart

I am such a hopeless romantic. I completely blame Taylor Swift and Jim and Pam’s relationship in The Office for giving me unrealistic expectations of how amazing my future partner will be. Because of all this, when I saw that I was meant to write about five ways to win my heart, I instantly got so excited that I started dramatically staring off into the middle distance, practically singing “Someday my prince will come” from Sleeping Beauty which is completely not my style. I like to think of myself more as Wonder Woman, saving the world being her number one priority instead of dating, but here I am, living out some sort of princess fantasy about how one day someone will come and sweep me off my feet while simultaneously ticking off every single item on the list to win my heart. Full disclosure, I have only been single for about 3 or 4 months now and I forget how needy I can be. I am currently watching my friend be in an adorable relationship, while my other friend has turned himself into a babe magnet and I’m sat here watching my true crime documentaries while looking at dream universities, making pin boards on Pinterest or doing some completely pointless Buzzfeed quiz which may not impact my life drastically, but I feel like they do! All jokes aside, I am doing great without any romantic partner and crushing on people can be fun at times!

  1. An awful sense of humour.

This is probably the most basic thing I’ve ever said, but I need someone who laughs at the worst possible time, cracks awful politically incorrect jokes and just spews jokes which are dark, dirty and depressing. I need someone who makes me feel bad for laughing at their stupid joke because it was so pointless that it made me laugh. What can I say? I feel like everything’s to serious and I love being able to lighten the mood with my friends. It’s a lot harder to be funny on an activist blog where the articles are pretty dark anyway… Oops.

2. Big goals in life

Yet another super basic one, but if you’re a regular here on my blog – which first of all, thank you for putting up with me for this long! – you’ll know I have some pretty big hopes for my future. I like having big goals and I’ve always admired others who strive for greatness too. It’s such a small thing, but to be able to say “I’d really love to be…” or “Someday I hope that…” I just think it’s one of the greatest qualities a person can have. Aspiration is one of the main factors of what has kept me going on and fighting strong, so anytime I see someone else with that same factor, I instantly have so much respect and adoration for them because they know what they want and they refuse to let anything stand in their way.

3. Casually quote cult classic TV Shows and movies on the daily.

In particular The Office, but I’ll take anything really! One of my favourite things to do is irritate my friends by reciting musical lyrics or quoting some strange 80s film. One of my favourite things to say when I’m saying goodbye to my friends is “It’s been emotional”. If you know where that’s from then I adore you 🙂 It also means I’ll be able to binge things like It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia or How I Met Your Mother with someone else! It gets lonely at times…

4. Top notch insults

The reason I get on so well with my friends is because they know no limits. The jokes they come up with are hilarious and their risqué sense of humour is something I love. If I find someone who insults me (in a joking way of course), you’ll immediately win your way into my heart. I instantly take it as a challenge to come up with an amazing comeback and then it’s game on. I don’t back down from the competition, which my friends have learnt the hard way.

5. A not-so-secret hopeless romantic…

…Like me! As much as I try hide it, I’m a sucker for an adorable relationship. The ones where they give you little things just because, or talk about how amazing you are to their friends. Ones where they just hug you because you’re there and the ones where you go out on cute dates to the beach and things. I have observed all of these from a distance and I want one for myself!

10 Things Which Make Me Really Happy

Hi there and welcome to day one of my 30 day writing challenge! Day one is a very sweet one: ten things that make me really happy. I like this because it doesn’t just make me happy, it makes me really happy.

I thought about this for a while, and I think, finally, I have a complete list of what makes me really happy, so much so that I smiled so much while writing this.

  1. Dancing with my little brother I say this to everyone I speak to: I love my little brother with my whole heart. In particular I love dancing with him. We have already recreated Blurred Lines, Shake It Off and Starships but we are currently learning Beyoncé’s iconic Single Ladies. It’s so fun just messing around and having a little boogie woogie with my little baby brother.
  2. Singing and performing Slightly similar to number one, but I love to perform and sing. I play on my ukulele and I feel infinite. I love transforming myself into another person, getting into their mindset and walking a mile in their shoes. It’s one of the best ways I can switch off my busy brain which is even more chock-a-block than the London Underground at 5pm!
  3. Writing my blog is the best creative outlet I have ever had. I have a platform, I can spread my message of equality while staying true to yourself, and I love the feeling I get when someone follows my blog or likes one of my posts (hint hint) because it shows me that all the effort I put into this wild website does benefit at least one person, for whatever reason. I cannot explain enough how much I love my blog, it is my baby and I love my baby.
  4. Messing around with my friends I definitely have the greatest group of friends in the history of the world, no doubt about it. They always make me laugh – even if I really shouldn’t. When I’m with them, I feel like I can take on the world. I smile so much when I’m with them and not a moment goes by when at least one of us isn’t giggling about something stupid or…
  5. Cards Against Humanity. Wow! What a smooth transition into number five! CAH is the game that really exposes you to your friends and whoever wins is the funniest of the week. We have started a new tradition where every Friday we’ll meet up and play together. We get super competitive and we end up laughing over the most ridiculous stuff (my friend who shall remain nameless, went into hysterics because a card simply said Kale.) and we turn aggressive and choose to personally attack every single person in the group one by one. All in all, a fun game for all the family! (That was a joke, I’d rather look at a strangers feet than play CAH with my family).
  6. Going to London. London is my favourite place in the whole wide world. I love the West End, the museums, art galleries, shops, the whole shabang. The atmosphere makes me feel so… alive and some of my favourite memories were made in London. One day, I’ll live there, and that thought makes me so happy and contented that I feel there is hope left.
  7. Recreating Musicals in my room. Actually, not just musicals, music videos too. Some songs are such bangers that you have to dramatically sing along. My personal favourites are: Look What You Made Me Do, Bad Guy, I Think He Knows, She’s So Lovely, Everyday I Love You Less and Less and The Man (both Taylor Swift and The Killers). They get me so pumped and hyped and I always love singing Don’t Lose Ur Head, History of Wrong Guys and Sexy. You can bet I kick that door down like there’s no tomorrow while sashaying out with the sound of Gwen Stefani blasting from my speaker.
  8. Art. I love art. One of my dream dates from when I was younger was going to an art gallery in London (you can see the link between these), and not much has changed. I love recreating artwork and looking at it. I just find it so fascinating that even with my microscopic attention span I can’t help but stop and stare.
  9. When I make my parents cry with laughter. When I was about 11 or 12, I first watched Jack Whitehall and Russell Howard doing stand up comedy. After that, I went through a small phase of wanting to do stand up myself. I’d still love to do that now, but realistically, I know I’m not that funny but, hey, a girl can dream so dream I will! However, I feel like my confidence sky rockets whenever I say something which makes my parents burst out in a genuine fit of laughter. I love it because it shows me that I can be funny and that I say and do things which interest others to become active listeners in the story of my life.
  10. That feeling when you wake up on a Saturday, just before noon, rays of sun shining through your curtains. Birds chirping, you can hear your family – those you love with your whole heart – laughing and chatting downstairs. In that moment I feel as though the world is my oyster and it’s times like those that I realise how truly blessed I am to be alive, I pushed through whenever the goings got tough and that happened a lot. This time last year I would never have imagined this is where I’d be now, but I wouldn’t change a bit of it. It’s all shaped me into the person that stands before me in the mirror today and she’s ready for anything life throws at her, because life throws a lot at her. She’s a damsel, she’s in distress, she can handle this herself, have a nice day.

Saturday Nights

So, I’m single and I’m happy this way. I feel like you need to know this to understand the context of my story.

Due to the fact I am a single lady, I spend Saturday nights alone. Even if it sounds incredibly depressing, I have come to look forward to these evenings as I feel it gives me time to focus on myself and I have time to properly care for myself.

After spending time with my brother, when he goes up to bed, I normally call my friends just to see how they’re doing and things. I do this for about half an hour, then, when the sun starts to set, the party for one begins.

I’ll turn off all communication with the outside world, grab my Winnie the Pooh blanket, turn my laptop onto airplane mode and switch on the TV, searching for something to watch. Every few weeks, I decide to watch some stand-up comedy which is what I did this evening. I’ve always loved stand-up because it’s so light-hearted and you can just switch off and laugh your worries away. It also makes me feel less alone because of the interpersonal relationships you build with the comedian performing (media studies ftw). This evening I watched an array of different funny guys: Pete Davidson, Donald Glover, Bo Burnham and then ending with Russell Howard. Each of these comedians mean something to me, hence why I chose them this Saturday Night.

Before I pressed play on Pete Davidson, I decided to get some snacks. I normally get super hungry from around 9pm onwards so I helped myself to a bowl of cereal, a pear, some strawberries and chocolate. This may sound healthy now, but wait a few hours and you’ll see me turn into a hungry hippo!

Munching away, I resumed watching comedy, feeling at ease listening to their jokes which appealed to my dark sense of humour.

At around 11pm, I was part way done with Bo Burnham’s “Be Happy” and I got hungry again. I paused my game of solitaire and got my Dad to make me some cheese on toast. Not to be cheesy (I apologise profusely) but my Dad 100% makes the best cheese on toast in the world – no questions asked.

After entering cheese heaven, I continued watching Netflix and playing solitaire when at 1am, my Mum finally managed to convince me to go to bed. After talking to my parents for a while, I went to bed, put on some YouTube and drifted off to a magical world of slumber.

Why did I post this article you wonder? Being single is portrayed as the worst thing on earth, when in reality, I cherish evenings where I can just be myself and ugly-laugh to my hearts content. That to me is self-love.

What’s your version of self-love? Everyone is different and there are no wrong answers. Just remember to disconnect from your phone once in a while and take time for you and you only.

Random Things I’ve Been Doing During Lockdown

See, I vowed to stop writing lockdown articles because I feel like it just gets everyone down and that’s not good because I’m here to inspire, encourage and just help everyone to vibe! But, I felt like this was a rather light hearted article, so I caved and decided to write it. I hope you enjoy and there’s a notice at the end which is kind of important!

Since GCSEs were cancelled, I’ve needed to find something to do for all the time I was meant to be revising and working. I complete all my schoolwork the day it’s set (nerd, I know), which means I have a lot of free time. I could spend this time catastrophising and falling down the deep pit of despair, but that’s very unproductive, and I love being organised and busy. (I ooze Pinterest mum energy if you haven’t been able to tell) Instead, I have devoted my time into random skills and hobbies which may (but most likely may not) help me in the future! If you’re sat at home, bored out of your poor little mind, never fear! For Tati is here!

This is also a good way to keep you busy so you don’t focus on the negatives, thus helping your mental health 🙂 – I’ve got your back babes xx

  1. I can now make sushi! This is a super random one, but for Christmas last year I got a sushi making kit, but I never really had the time to actually make the sushi. Luckily, I have all the time in the world now! (I don’t actually know if that’s lucky…) Nonetheless, I have really enjoyed making sushi and giving it to my friends and family.

2. I’ve been doing lots of artwork. I used to love doing mindful colouring – I found it very calming and the end product made me happy. However, recently I have decided to step out of my comfort zone and draw as well. I’ve never been that confident in my artwork and so it’s been really lovely to be proud of my work – which is a rarity for me!

3. I have found solace in Solitaire. A strangely therapeutic game for me, whenever I’m bored or need to relax I just play a game of solitaire! When I was about six or seven, I used to always play with my Grandma and she’d help to show me all the tricks of the trade and I’m looking forward to showing her how much I’ve improved since then!

4. I’ve organised my room on multiple occasions. I have thrown loads of stuff out of my room and it has been very cathartic. It feels like I am giving myself a fresh start and I’m trying to start a new chapter in my life. You know what they say! Clean room, clean mind, organised room, organised mind.

5. Present shopping! My Mum, Dad, brother and I are all summer babies. This means that there is a lot of present shopping around this time. Now, let me tell you this: I love present shopping. It’s an obsession at this point. If it’s anyone’s birthday coming up, I’ll make a board on Pinterest (which you should definitely follow me on here) and then I decide what present I think will suit them best. I feel like Santa, analysing exactly what I think everyone wants and what will give them the most joy. If Santa ever needs some time off, I’m your (wo)man.

6. Organising parties! This was one of my favourite things to do before lockdown, and it’s still my favourite thing to do now! I love planning things, especially parties and because it’s the big sweet sixteen coming up, I’ve been planning for that! It helps me to focus on one thing and it really helps my budgeting skills and party planning abilities in general!

7. Fitness routines. I’m a sucker for a routine and when it comes to working out, nothing really changes! I’m working on a few articles at the moment about being fit and healthy as a teen so follow my blog so you can be notified every time I post a new article! 🙂

8. Re-branding myself. This lockdown, I have dedicated much of my time to becoming the true Tati. I’ve been working on articles here so I can post once or twice a week, I’ve been wearing whatever I want, I’ve been cutting out all the fakies and the flakies for good which is really exciting. I’m finally starting a new chapter of my life and I’m excited for you all to come along for the ride!

9. Practicing make-up looks! Every time I go out of the house, I’ve been trying a new look to go with my outfits (you can see more of my outfits here). It’s been another fun creative outlet and I know I’ll be able to look my best for sixth form this September!

10. Modelling and taking photos. I’ve been working a lot on my Pinterest recently and this leads me neatly into my news…

As you know, I deleted Instagram in February but I’m planning on re-downloading it at some point. Until then, I have appointed a new member to the Totally Tatian clan – Estella! Estella is in charge of my Instagram and she is my photographer as well as my overall rock. She is the one who I run through all my ideas with and she takes all my photos. Go give her some love and while you’re at it you should follow me 😉

Black Lives Matter – Taking a Stand From Home

Once more, the world is in a state of political unrest. Alongside the virus, there are protests happening worldwide supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. If, like me, you are unable to go out and protest, I can assure you there are ways you can support the movement. Hopefully, if we all continue to unite as we are currently, we can make this world a safe place for all – not just certain races. If you know anymore ideas or have any advice to give, please comment it. It’s about time we made some change around here and it is important that we are all as educated as possible on the matters at hand.

If you are unaware of the situation in America currently, there are protests taking place over the murder of George Floyd and the punishment of the policeman responsible for his death. These protests have begun to spread around the world and if you want to do something to show your support for the movement but are paranoid about leaving your house due to… other events, I have compiled a list of things you can do to help while staying safe and home.

  1. Remember their names. As unfortunate and horrific as it is, George Floyd is not the first instance of police brutality to a person of colour. It is so important that we remember all those who have lost their lives simply because of the colour of their skin. It’s dumfounding how many victims there are, but it’s just all the more proof that this should have been changed a long time ago. We can’t change the past, but we can at least change the future.
  2. Sign petitions. Change.org have so many petitions about this movement and it is a well trusted website which will – quite frankly – get shit done. It’s such a quick, simplistic way to make a difference and I assure you, you’ll feel so much better after you’ve done it. Sign up for updates and you can sign even more petitions.
  3. Be respectful to all those around you and the victims friends and family. Such an important one. This is definitely not the time to start an all out race war. This is the time of political movement and change. This is not the time to claim all white people have a superiority complex or that all cops are racist. This just gets you no-where and you have no evidence for your facts. Don’t accuse someone of something they have not done. We need to learn to spread love and not hate, the sooner the better.
  4. Educate yourselves. I understand that everyone has differing views on this whole protest and that’s okay, you just need to remember to learn and back up your points. If you have a differing view it’s important to educate and learn as much as you can about the situation before forming an opinion.
  5. Buy from black-owned companies and support small businesses and avoid buying from companies just profiting of others struggle. Lots of big name brands are unfortunately using this time to profit off of the racism in the world. If you want to support, yet again educate yourself on which companies you should avoid. Buying and supporting from black owned companies is a step in the right direction towards acceptance and equality.
  6. Call people out on their racist behaviour and educate them. Lots of people make jokes. That’s fine! However, some people cross the line and their “jokes” are plain offensive. It’s important that if you see a joke or comment that makes you uncomfortable, spread the word that what they’ve said or done isn’t acceptable.
  7. Boycott racist companies and influencers. In this day in age lots of companies and people are being exposed for their racist ways. The only way we can show these people and companies that it’s not okay is by not buying or promoting their products until they change their ways.
  8. Speak up and speak out If you have had a negative experience involving your race, get your story heard and share it. The more people who speak up, the better as it shows the government and those in charge that this is an actual problem.
  9. Donate to charities and causes. Yet again you’ll need to do your research, but donating as little as £1 can go a long way and you can help change the future. If you are unable to donate, then share and spread the message to show we stand together.
  10. Attending protests. I am aware this isn’t easy at all, but if you can, try your best to show up to show your support. Make sure you stay safe and healthy and go do your part.

This time isn’t easy for anyone. If we try spread support and love and raise awareness, hopefully our voices will be heard and the world will change for the better.

This is a time that will go down in history, you just need to stay safe and support others.

Iconic Films That Pass the Bechdel Test

In short, an amazing cartoonist named Alison Bechdel created a criterion to show representation of women in films.  The criteria is quite simple:

A movie that has at least two women in it who talk to each other, about something other than a man.

At first, I thought that finding films which follow this would be super easy.  However, when I began thinking about it, movies which pass the test are few and far between.  For easy viewing, I have compiled a list of ten of my favourite films which pass this test.  Happy watching!

1) Wonder Woman

I am obsessed with this film. It’s the first superhero movie I ever watched and I was so excited because I felt I finally found a mainstream character in the media who looked like me. Wonder Woman is so cool and I can honestly do an entire paragraph about how she’s a feminist icon… (hint hint 😉 )

2) Jojo Rabbit

Taika Waititi and Roman Griffin Davis as Hitler and Jojo

3) Enchanted

James Marsden, Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsy

Anyone who knows me also knows I love Disney. Those who know me very well know I am completely obsessed with Enchanted. A fariytale film with a feminist twist, with multipule cameos from Disney princess alummni, I just heckin love this film!

4) Crazy Rich Asians

Rom Com films aren’t really my thing, but when I heard they were making a film made of an exclusively Asian cast and that it was based on a book, I was very interested. I read the book first, (and the second one… and the third one…) then finally went on to watch the movie with my Mum. I was obsessed! They perfectly bought all the characters to life and I loved it! The costumes… Oh. My. God!! Watch this film!!

5) Oceans 8

A star studded cast? Check! An iconic heist film? Check! Showing girls can do it too? Check! This film is the best! It has some of my absolute favourite actors in too: Anne Hathaway, James Corden and Awkwafina to name a few!

6) Shrek 3

Shrek and Donkey

I still wonder how a film can be a complete hit with my whole English class and actually show empowering women. Also, Shrek is just one of those film franchises you need to watch.

7) Birds of Prey

Margot Robbie

I have already written a review about this film but I will never stop saying that this is the heartbreak healer. I’m so glad I watched this film when I did, because I was going through my own Joker and Harley breakup which made me feel so alone. I empathised with Harley Quinn and I left that cinema feeling like a new person. 8) Mean Girls

This movie is so fetch! I quote it on the daily and it’s one of the 100 films you have to watch in your life.

9) Toy Story 4

The long awaited finale of this fantastic franchise. It definitely doesn’t let you down!

10) Clueless

Stacey Dash, Alica Silverstone and Brittany Murphy

This film is a cult classic and it’s directed by a fearless female so just watch it!

Best Thing

There are lots of things which haven’t been the best recently.  However, some things have been amazing.

Getting to watch the sun set and being able to go outside and see the stars.

Spending time with my family and reconnecting with them after a long time of tension and mistrust.

Gaining confidence and nursing myself back to healthy mindsets.

Playing with my not-so-little little brother and creating inside jokes and memories that will last us a lifetime.

Learning more about what I want to do in my future and working towards a long-term goal.

Speaking to people I rarely see or speak to and having fun.

Having family game nights!

Learning and growing as a person.

Even though none of this is ideal, we’re a strong bunch.  As soon as this is over, we’ll be back fighting more than ever.  Watch out world, we’ll be back and better then ever.  Until then, I have the best things… My best things.

A-Z of Secondary School

All I seem to be posting about at the moment is school.  It’s probably a psychological cry for help because I miss it so much.  I don’t really know what to do with myself so I compiled an entire alphabet so you can be prepared for secondary school.  I had so much free time, I actually managed to compile three!  As I can only stay focused for so long, I’ve broken this down into three separate posts, one for each alphabet set.  This is a perfect post for anyone who’s in year five or six and is wondering about secondary school – maybe even worrying about it.  This is a perfect post for anyone with children who are about to move into secondary school and want to know all the “big kid ways” before they’re thrust upon them and you.  But most of all, this post is for that little girl, getting ready to go into big school and it scared senseless.  She’s had countless sleepless nights and is worrying out of her wits.  I just want to say to that girl: it’s ok, you’ll be ok.  It may not feel it and it may feel like there’s no end in sight when you’re stuck in it, but I promise, if I can get through it – Miss Problematic – you’ll get through it!  I promise you that much.  Well after that surprisingly deep and meaningful introduction, let me introduce you to… Tati’s Top Tips For The Terrible Teen Years: school (I thought about that title for a long time and I’m very proud of myself if you couldn’t tell 🙂

Ability – just remember, push your limits and always try your hardest!  Others may be a higher ability than you but as long as you try, it doesn’t matter!

Best Friends – People in secondary school can be mean.  Really mean.  But as long as you stay with your close friends, you’ll be perfectly fine, and no-one can hurt you.  It may take you a while to find your tribe, but that’s okay!  True friends are worth the wait.  Take me for example, the friends that mean the world to me, I didn’t find them until year eleven and now we’re totally inseparable!  People even mix me up with Blondie – friendly reminder she has blonde hair and I have black hair and her favourite colour is pink and mine is yellow, we also speak very differently.  But you know, she’s beautiful so I’m not complaining!

Creativity – Secondary school is the best place to let your creativity run wild!  Whether you feel your creative juices flowing through being an artist, a musician, a writer or even a performer, you’ll find your creativity here!

Dating – From the get-go, there will always be someone “dating” someone else.  In years 10 and 11 is when you should put your revision before dates (no rhyming sorry) but year 7 and 8 relationships are fun to look back on.  Someone I “dated” for almost a year in year 8 is now one of my best friends but someone I “dated” in year 11 is ready to kill me with a ping pong bat (long story).

Eating – no matter what, remember to eat!  Secondary school uses a lot of your energy and this is the best way to gain energy.  Try having a balanced, healthy diet – I’m posting a blog soon about a balanced, healthy diet so look out for that!

Fights – at secondary school, no matter how fancy the school may be, there are fights.  Try and steer clear from them as much as you can, or you’ll get caught in the crossfire.

Homework – I feel like such a teacher saying this but do your homework as soon as possible!  It’s so much easier to do it on the night it’s been set, that way it’s all fresh in your mind.  It’s the same with coursework.  The more you do now, the less you have to later and that is very true.

Independence – Secondary school is where you really gain your independence.  Make the most of it as the next step is adulthood.

June – also known as GCSE month.  It’s tiresome and you’ll be ready to quit but as soon as you’re done, believe me you feel like you can take on the world.  Just get your head down and revise, that’s the best support I can give you.

Kindness – just be kind.  It sounds corny but a smile at a classmate you’ve caught the eye of can really boost someone’s moral when they need it most.  It’s the little things, and it’ll make you feel good about yourself.

Library – go to the library for research!  It’s the best place to go and it’s full of information.  The librarian’s both at my school and at my local library are so lovely and kind, they’re always there to support you and I’m sure your librarian’s will be the same!

Maturity – some people you meet will be super mature for their age.  And when I say super mature, I mean they’re either the parent of the group or the grandparent of the group.  However, you’ll meet people on the other end of the spectrum who you can be pretty sure are three-year-olds stuck in a pubescent teens body (me).  There’s no in-between so be prepared to meet some crazies!  (They do give you great stories though).

Notes – take as many rough notes as you can in class.  That’s the best advice I can ever give you.  Jot down anything and everything the teacher says, then when you get home you can clean and condense.  It’s a perfect revision tool and a perfect way to make sure you don’t miss anything important which could show up in a test.

Options – choosing GCSE options can actually be really exciting.  I’m compiling a list of information about the GCSE’s you can take and peoples opinions on each subject.  That should be helpful for anyone struggling to choose.  Just remember, there are no “easy pass” GCSE’s.  I know so many people who regret choosing Performing Arts because they thought it would be easy to pass – there’s a hell of a lot of coursework involved!  Just make sure to be knowledgeable on whatever subjects you want to pick, knowing the specifications is really helpful for that too and you can find them easily online for each exam board for each subject.

Pastel Highlighters – People, say it with me: pastel highlighters are not what make you pass your GCSE’s, hard work is.  Pastel highlighters are great, and they look really pretty, just make sure you actually spend time revising, not highlighting!  Although, exam tip, take a highlighter into exams with you, this way you can highlight key words in a question, and it decreases your chance of misreading the question.

Questions – I’m sure you’ll have loads of questions about secondary school, I did!  So, if you ever want to talk to someone who’s been there, done that, my inbox is always open, so just drop me an email at totallytatiana.contact@gmail.com  I’ll reply to anyone and everyone!

Rumours – something which is impossible to escape, no matter how hard you try.  It’s no fun, but you just need to hold your head up, ignore people, and don’t spread them about other people.  It hurts and it just leads to more issues than necessary.

Studying – Study as much as you can!  Take notes, ask questions, go to catch up sessions, all that jazz.  It’ll pay off massively in the end and you never know, you may find a new passion!

Teachers – Love them or loathe them, at the end of the day, they are there for you.  They care about you and they want you to reach your potential, even if it feels like they don’t at times.  Just trust me, they want you to pass as much as you want to pass and they’ll root for you.

Uniform – more schools in Britain have school uniform than don’t.  It’s an age-old debate about whether or not we should have uniforms but that’s not what I’m here for.  Follow the uniform rules as much as you can in the first few weeks of term, then if you’re feeling rebellious (like me) push the limits slightly.  Bend the rules as you see fit, just don’t go crazy.

Victory – that last day of school feeling when you realise you survived another year at school.  It feels good.  Just know the end is always in sight, even if it doesn’t always look it, it’s there and it’s rooting for you.

Worrying – It’s completely ok to worry and stress, just don’t let it take over your life.  Try distraction and relaxation techniques to calm yourself down, once you find one that clicks, it’ll do wonders for your mental wellbeing.

Xanax – Yes, I’m talking about meds.  If you take meds for your mental health or if you don’t, it’s nothing to be ashamed of!  It’s completely fine, as long as you’re as happy and healthy then it doesn’t matter.

YOLO – God, I feel like a 2010 Tumblr kid again.  Just remember, your secondary school life only lasts for so long.  Make the most of it because it can be fun.  A lot of fun.

Zits – you’re a teen, going through puberty.  It’s natural so don’t stress!  Just drink water as that helps and eat a balanced diet.

Disney Princesses

I won’t lie to you; I feel as though Disney princesses have a bad rep.  I’ve heard so many people talk about how they’re enforcing stereotypes to young girls and, even though this is true to some extent, I’ve found many people overlooking exactly what Disney Princesses stand for. 

When I was younger, I often found solace in watching Disney movies and I found myself learning a lot about my own identity.  I couldn’t help but idolise these women and wonder what it would be like to be locked in a tower, kidnapped or enslaved, poisoned or being woken up by true loves kiss.  (I was a strange kid – I know).  However, as I grew older, it was not the damsel in distress side I looked up to – it took some time to get my head around the fact that no-one wished to lock me up because I had magical powers, force me to be their servant because they were jealous of me and definitely no-one who wished to be my true-loves-kiss.  I began to look up to and idolise the true meaning of Disney Princesses and the females in the Disney franchise themselves.  I have selected six of the most fearless females in the Disney franchise who were my idols, style gurus, sisters and friends for the younger years of my life.

Belle is commonly given a bad reputation due to the Stockholm Syndrome elements and the somewhat bestiality vibes given off.  However, if we gloss over that for just a while, you will realise Belle influenced me and taught me so many things I do to this day.  She taught me being different from others is okay, it’s okay to read, to never let go of my morals, never give up, stand my ground and not be afraid to stand up to bullies and that every rose has it’s thorns.  She also loves yellow like yours truly, so you know she’s an icon.

Beauty and the Beast

Mulan is the one princess I don’t think you can chat sh*t about.  She saved China while going against gender stereotypes, teaching me to never give up, always be myself, how to push my limits and showed me how to be both physically and mentally strong.  She also taught me that I can do everything (and more) a man can do, and that the length of your hair doesn’t determine your gender (article explaining this is coming soon)

Mulan

Megara may not be a true Disney princess, but she is the most badass “Damsel in distress” you’ll ever meet.  She taught me that I shouldn’t stand for anyone’s crap, that I can help myself and a man doesn’t need to help me.  She taught me how to pick myself up again time and time again without anyone there.  She also taught me hair is a powerful weapon to use wisely.

Hercules

Jasmine taught me to never be ashamed of my own body.  Some may hate on what she wore but honestly, we all need that body confidence in our lives.  She showed me that I’m not a prize to be won, but instead a human being.  She showed me how to smash the patriarchy on a daily basis and to value freedom, equality and never to discriminate.  Most of all she taught me that it’s okay to have darker skin, it doesn’t make you any less beautiful. Aladdin

Rapunzel wins the battle for best prince.  But she hasn’t just taught me to fall in love with a sarcastic, sassy, fearless man, she also taught me so much more.  There’s nothing wrong with having a dream that you wish will come true, creativity is a magical thing.  Also, she showed me that a frying pan is a damn good weapon.

Tangled

Giselle isn’t the most mainstream princess, but she is perfect all the same.  Her growth and character development throughout the film is definitely one to be applauded on and she is insanely strong and talented.

Enchanted

If you read my post about 2019, you’ll know this year was insane.  I lost a few people but gained so many more, I overcame things I never thought I’d be able to, and all in all, I am a bloody warrior now who doesn’t care what anyone thinks.  Of course, I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for the people I want to thank right now, and that’s why I’m here.  I always hope you know how much I care about you but if you don’t, I hope after you read this you understand how much I love each and every one of you.

First up, I want to say the biggest thank you to my family.  My Bother aged nine and a bit, and my Mum and my Dad aged… 40 something.  I always say it to my friends, but I rarely say it to them so I’m going to say it now.  I have the most amazing parents ever.  They’re so supportive and kind and they would do anything for me.  They’ve taught me so much, ever since I was younger and I hope that if I ever have kids, I’ll raise them like you raised me.  My Dad doesn’t mind taking me on late night jaunts where we’ll go out at crazy o’clock and I’ll take photos of the night life while my Mum is okay with staying up and talking to me because I don’t want to sleep because I can’t always deal with the nightmares.  Long story short, my parents are now nocturnal because of me and never complain.  I’m so lucky to have amazing parents and the cherry on top of the cake is my little brother.  As siblings do, he may get on my nerves but more often than not he is the best brother I could ask for.  He’s the funniest, smartest, most deserving brother I could ever ask for and I hope he knows how much I love him.

Secondly, my two friends who have been here for me since the start.  We have the loved Thumper and my Big Brother who we’ll call Sam.  Thumper is the first person I told about being assaulted and ever since that day, he’s supported me so much.  He’s fought my battles when I was unable to, been there to pick me up when I’ve given up, and all in all, everyone needs a Thumper in their life – someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand and is more than happy for you to turn up at their house unannounced and will cheer you up to no end.  (Also, Thumper’s Mum is an angel and is like a second mother so thanks to her as well.)  Sam is always there to distract.  He’s let me call him out of the blue who knows how many times and just allows me to scream and yell about how much I hate this thing or how much this person has hurt me.  He’s there with his dog walks and he’s more than happy to come over to my house in the evening and we’ll go on walks and try not to get lost.  All in all, Thumper and Sam are two of the constant things in my life and I am so lucky to have them supporting me with every crazy idea that comes out.

Next, my Boyfriend.  We may have only been going out for two months, but he knows me better than people I’ve known my whole life.  He puts up with me when I am at my highest of highs and when I’m at my lowest of lows.  He’s the best person to turn to when I’m not feeling my best and he always cheers me up.  He’s funny, strong, smart and has an air of “calm” about him whenever I need it most.  He’s also my gossip buddy and keeps me up to date on all the craziness that’s happening.  Honestly, I am so lucky to have him and if you’re reading this – I love you.

Also, totally worth mentioning, my whole friendship group.  In total there’s about 10 of us who sit in the year 11 area at lunch and it’s safe to say that there’s never a dull moment when we’re around.  No matter how low I’m feeling, these guys will always manage to make me smile, laugh and just cheer me up.  Whether it’s because we’re doing karate without our legs, making a jacuzzi out of chairs, refusing to sit on the chairs and just… Squatting, showing everyone our friends new son – a cactus, screaming song lyrics or just having some nearly give someone else concussion because he threw a shoe and it hit his head, there’s never a dull moment and I feel so blessed to have a friendship group which likes me for me.
